What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a system of clear plastic aligners that you wear to correct alignment problems with your smile.
Who can benefit from Invisalign?
Most adults are perfect candidates for Invisalign and the system is also a good choice for older, active teens who are concerned about their appearance and may not have the time to care for braces.
How does Invisalign work?
You will visit Dr. Pottenger for an exam and consultation and your smile will be carefully scanned. Those images will be used to create series of custom aligners, which gradually move your teeth into their proper alignment.
How long will I need to wear my aligners?
Although every smile is different, average Invisalign treatment time is 14 months. This is significantly faster than treatment with traditional braces, which typically takes from two to four years. Most patients wear each set of Invisalign aligners between one and two weeks before they switch to another set. For best results, we usually recommend wearing your aligners for about 22 hours each day.
Is Invisalign comfortable?
Yes! The aligners are very comfortable and you should get used to them very quickly.
Is it true no one will notice them?
If you are concerned about your appearance, don’t worry! The Invisalign aligners are made of clear acrylic and fit snugly against your teeth, making them virtually invisible to other people.
Can I still enjoy my favorite foods?
Absolutely. Because you remove the aligners for meals there are no restrictions on your diet. You can simply put them in their case before you eat and put them back in after your meal. It is a good idea to brush your teeth before putting your aligners back in to avoid staining them.
Will this change my dental routine and how do I clean my aligners?
All you need to do is remove your aligners and brush and floss your teeth just as you normally would. To clean your aligners, you can use lukewarm water and toothpaste but we suggest using the Invisalign Cleaning System and Dr. Pottenger will be happy to tell you more.
